Meet Derrick! Derrick works in the Accounting department as a Controller and has been with Goodwill Columbus for three years. He has a B.A. and MBA in Accounting and has over 25 years of experience in the industry!
He previously worked in hospital finance at OhioHealth and came to Goodwill at a time when he was looking for more work-life balance. The Controller position interested Derrick because he’s always gravitated towards the non-profit sector and the thought of helping others.
In his current position, Derrick manages all accounting operations including financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and purchasing. He also maintains internal controls to ensure that financials accurately reflect the day-to-day operations of each business line and the company is following GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
Derrick’s favorite part of his role includes teaching and building relationships with his team. When asked what he’s looking forward to the most, professionally in 2026, Derrick said, “Utilizing the various new tools and analysis that our team put into place to ensure that we focus on the balance sheet.”
Outside of work, Derrick is a veteran (Marine Corps) and happily married to his wife Katina. They share four children between the two, and will welcome their third grandchild in May!
