Jonathan became familiar with Goodwill when he applied for an entry-level IT role after being laid off from his decade-long career in fraud management. While he did not get a job offer, he ended up enrolling in an IT career pathway program that Goodwill offers.
“I had taken an assessment as part of the application process, but I ended up in the IT class by pure accident,” Jonathan said. “It was perfect, because I was exploring new training and development opportunities.”
After eight weeks of classes, Jonathan graduated from the class with a CompTIA A+ certification and found employment at OLCL as a Service Operations Center Analyst.
“I like the role a lot,” Jonathan said. “There is a lot to learn, because I didn’t come from this type of environment. I didn’t go to school for any of this. Learning computer language is daily education.”
He continued, “I would definitely recommend Goodwill’s classes to others. There is a lot of emerging technology, and it’s going to take over a lot of the world’s entry-level roles. Learning the fundamentals of IT – especially if you don’t have an IT background – can give you a competitive advantage. It’s a great foundational model for anyone to follow. For anyone starting or shifting their career, the process is incredibly beneficial.”
